Sherman Hammons at Pioneer Days 1973The Pocahontas Opera House is pleased to present the 2nd Annual “Hammons Musical Heritage Celebration,” as part of Marlinton’s Autumn Harvest Festival and West Virginia Roadkill Cook Off. The Hammons Family carried on ancient traditions of fiddling, banjo playing, ballad singing and story telling at their remote mountain home in Pocahontas County.

The musicians of Pocahontas County’s Hammons family continue to influence musicians to this day. All ages are invited to perform in the celebration. The Hammons Family  had a pervasive and enduring effect on West Virginia’s regional mountain music. Though they have passed on, their influence is alive to be celebrated.

Performers will not be judged, but will receive a gift from the Opera House. Registration is free and will be available in advance online , or by calling B.J. Gudmundsson at (304) 799-3989. Musician registration on September 24 begins at 5:30 p.m. So practice together with some friends, and sign up to celebrate Pocahontas County’s rich musical tradition at the Hammons Musical Heritage Celebration!
